Dera chief Ram Rahim gets 10 years in jail for rape

Self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced on Monday to 10 years in jail for rape, days after his conviction triggered clashes between his group and the police, killing at least 38 people.
Guru Ram Rahim rape case verdict

Tens of thousands of Singh’s supporters set fire to cars and vandalised property in Haryana on Friday, minutes after he was found guilty of raping two of his followers. Hours before Singh was sentenced in Rohtak, mobile internet was cut off, infrastructure barricaded and armed soldiers manned checkpoints.

A judge was flown in a helicopter to ruling the 50-year-old spiritual leader known as the “guru in bling” for his penchant for bejewelled costumes. Singh, who claims to have more than 50 million followers worldwide, could face a minimum seven years in prison for raping two of his female devotees.

The rape case was brought next to him after an anonymous letter was sent to after that prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2002 accusing Singh of repeatedly raping the sender and quite a lot of other women in the Dera Sacha Sauda sect.

Movie Reviews Babumoshai Bandookbaaz Wiki

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz
Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bidita Bag, Jatin Goswami

Director: Kushan Nandy

Rating: 2.5/5

Two professional assassin are drinking on a bridge over railway tracks, sharing their life stories and reminiscing how they entered into the production of killing people.

One of them consider the other his teacher. The junior has so much admiration for the senior that he has renamed himself Banke Bihari (Jatin Goswami) out of respect for his guru, Babu Bihari (Nawazuddin Siddiqui).

A weird self realisation takes over Banke when he learns that Babu gets paid Rs 25,000 for each murder while he gets only Rs 8,000. That turns their dialogue towards inflation and how it has become difficult for hired guns to operate with honesty. In an inebriated state, they confront each other to murder three people. Whosoever will eliminate the three first will win and the other will have to leave the business of contract killing.

There is mutual respect flanked by the two as they consider contract killing like any other job. Daredevils in their own rights, they enjoy patronage from local politicians. They have accepted nomadic lifestyle as their fate and are not attached to anybody except their craft of commit murders in unique ways.

Like Raman and Raghav, they have a connection. Babu doesn’t mind Banke flirting with his girlfriend Fulwa (Bidita Bag). In fact, all three drink and dance together. There are indications of Banke getting intimate with Fulwa beyond convinced limits, but Babu turns a blind eye as Banke has already passed his trust test.

It reads like a quirky thriller on paper, but in execution, it’s borderline ridiculous.

Kushan Nandy open his film with a lot of promise. We meet a gun-trotting Babu and hear Amitabh Bachchan’s songs in the background. It’s mufassil Uttar Pradesh where local strongman Dubey (Anil George) loves to see his wife getting massage from a burly masseuse. Though Nandy has left it to our imagination what could have happened next, but he evidently hints towards a mutual understanding between Dubey and his wife about dissimilar sources of sexual pleasure.

Then there is razor-tongued Jiji (Divya Dutta) who lusts for power and abuses non-stop. She holds the key to local political thrones and takes challenges head-on. Her conversations with local top cop (Bhagwan Tiwari) are laden with innuendo and bring out the struggle to have an upper hand in local proceedings.

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has got the ingredients, but their proportions are not right. If you laugh at a Nawaz jibe then you also sense the futility of useless conspiracies. Sometimes for absolutely no reason. Then there is a twist that’s as compulsory as Nawazuddin stroking his hair in every second scene.

Those who want to compare it with Gangs Of Wasseypur will deeply feel about the lack of in-depth back-stories. Solely needy on Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s rugged image, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz lacks a cohesive script. Its texture is close to a web series than a film where twists happen to keep the story afloat till the next episode. Nandy doesn’t use them to cover-up the script loopholes.

Bidita Bag as gutsy and ambiguous Fulwa adds steam. Her expressive eyes tell the tales of a young lonely woman among wolves disguised as men. Her comfort level during intimate scenes with Nawazuddin fetches attention. Her sensuousness adds a new measurement to her cobbler girl.

Watch: The soulful Barfani from Babumoshai Bandookbaaz

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz appears superficial because it fails to explore characters and their idiosyncrasies. It states all about them in a matter of fact tone which eventually slacken the audience’s connect with them.

Some moments of spur-of-the-moment laughter are of course there. For example, when Banke watches The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in Hindi and tries to imitate Clint Eastwood. Or, when Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Jatin Goswami argue who should be credited with a finicky murder while their hostage supplies them the word they were looking for, which is tie-breaker.

But these moment can’t take away your attention from the shallowness of the entire facade. It’s a film pretending to be a stylishly raw gangster saga originate in the interiors of the Hindi heartland, but in reality, it’s nothing more than another attempt to look at the crime prone lower strata of society through a rose colored glass. Sadly, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz never pierces our hearts.

Bareilly Ki Barfi movie review: Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon’s

Cast: Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao
Director: Ashwini Iyer Tiwari

Rating: 3/5

When Chirag Dubey (Ayushmann Khurrana) tells Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkummar Rao), “Thukraaye huye aashiq ki kabhi haay mat lena (Never hurt a jilted lover),” he seems emotionally drained in a love story that has two guys competing to look more male in front of a heroine whose character flaw, as per the society, is that she acts like boys. Two, out of the three, will be able to take their love to a logical conclusion, in this case marriage, and the third will excuse himself to extra important matters like crying in a corner or deliver a long, heart-felt monologue in the end.

Bitti Mishra (Kriti Sanon) is a sharp tongued, mostly agitated Bareilly girl whose break dance is some sort of an event at local weddings. Fed up with the society and her nagging mother after a few rejections in the marriage market, she runs gone from home only to find a novel that has a innermost character similar to her. In the pursuit to meet the writer of the novel, Bitti meets two guys who start wooing her.

This love triangle soon include more dimensions like her family, friends and families of guys and above everything, a desire to show the small town milieu in a devoted way.

Such administrative decisions give a mild-mannered Pankaj Tripathi, Bitti’s sweet shop proprietor father, a chance to mumble hilarious one-liners. He keeps talking to a mostly-still ceiling fan thanks to Bareilly’s regular power cuts. Consider his reaction on his wife’s hyper ventilation, “Thyroid me mood swing hota hai, isiliye kich kich karti hai, (She blabbers because of her thyroid issues).” Or when he is rid of a stiff neck, “Sushila se sandaas tak sab dikh raha hai (From Sushila to toilet, I can witness everything).”

His school instructor wife Sushila, played by Seema Pahwa who has become the first choice for such roles, knows her priorities and the top among them is getting Bitti married. She is blatant sufficient to tell her guest, “Toh chai kyun banwaye, dudh 52 rupaye kilo ho gaya hai, (Why did you ask for tea if you didn’t want it? Don’t you know a litre of milk costs Rs 52?).”

Now when most of the primary typescript look comfortable with the language and accent, the focus shifts back to the three leads. As a result, Kriti Sanon also mouths dialogues like, “Tum kaahe liliya rahi ho (Why are you anxious?).” It’s interesting to see Kriti Sanon shed her urban image and try something out of her comfort zone. She carry the weight of the story on her shoulders initially as a bubbly, straightforward girl, but Bareilly Ki Barfi becomes really appealing after a terrific Rajkummar Rao enters the frame.

Here’s a guy who has be bullied by Ayushmann’s character to act like a ‘rangbaaz’, slang for street-smart people with a leaning for drama. In reality, he is a soft-spoken salesman everyone scolds. But his transformation determination leave you in splits. Rajkummar and Ayushmann make up for the predictability of the story.

Another difficulty rears its head once actors are settled in their roles. By now, all these characters have revealed themselves to us, so there’s nothing more to explore other than waiting for the resolution. Most of the tactics used by the director fail to distract the spectators from anticipating the climax, and when it starts we all be on familiar terms with how it can end.

Despite this, Bareilly Ki Barfi is sweet and delightful. Its hilarious one-liners like, “Ye toh aastin ka anaconda nikla” and “Ye Bitti raat bhar kahan ghumti rehti hai, ladki hai koi chudail thode na hai,” totally work. This light-hearted comedy refrain from being slapstick and slowly weave its charm. Worth a watch.

RBI Says New Rs 50 Notes Coming Shortly Five Things To Know Wiki

Just a month after the announcement of new Rs 20 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday said that it will also bring new Rs 50 banknotes shortly in movement. The new Rs 50 notes will be in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, bearing signatures of RBI governor Urjit R Patel, the central bank said in a press release. With "Fluorescent Blue" as the base colour, the new note "has motif of Hampi with Chariot on the reverse," it added.

Apart from the colour, the new Rs 50 message has different designs and geometric patterns aligning with the overall scheme, both at the obverse and reverse, the Reserve bank further affirmed

Here are the five features of the new Rs 50 note:
1. The new Rs 50 note will be in a dimension of 66 mm x 135 mm.

2. It will have a see through catalog with denominational numeral 50 on the front side of the note which means that the small design printed both on the front (hollow) and back (filled up) of the note in the middle of the vertical band next to the watermark, will have an accurate back-to-back registration. The devise will appear as one when seen against the light.

3. On the front side, denominational numeral 50 will also be on paper in Devnagari along with a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre.

4. The Ashoka Pillar emblem will be on paper on the front-right side. The guarantee clause, Governor’s signature with a promise clause and the RBI emblem will feature towards the right of Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait.

5. The year of printing would be mention on the back-left of the note and it will also have a Swachh Bharat logo with a slogan.

All the banknotes in the value of Rs 50 in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender. RBI is also expected to introduce new Rs 200 notes in the coming months to ease pressure on lower-denomination currencies that are in short supply. Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar told news agency IANS that Rs 200 note, printing of which had by now begun, would be in circulation soon.

BSNL Offers Unlimited Data Plan At Rs 249 Wiki

India’s state-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has announced an entry level ‘Unlimited Broadband at Rs 249’ plan for its users in India beneath which they will get up to 300GB data per month. The new plan also offers free calls during night time on certain days. The introductory offer which is only for new patrons is valid for one year after which it will be changed to 'BBG Combo ULD Rs 499' plan. The new broadband plan from BSNL can be seen to directly struggle with special offers on the rampage by telecom operators including Reliance Jio.

Under the Rs. 249 plan, clients will get up to 10GB daily data. Users will get speeds of up to 2Mbps till 5GB data download after which it will be reduced to 1Mbps. The diagram is valid across India except Jammu & Kashmir and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. BSNL also said that under the Rs 249 plan, users can make limitless free calls between 9 PM to 7 AM on all Sundays to any network in India.

BSNL has established that the Rs. 249 broadband plan will incur no additional charges from subscribers. There will be, however, a security deposit of Rs. 249, and the bare minimum hire period is one month.

BSNL has time and again tweaked its prepaid and postpaid contributions in the recent months, amid increasing competition in India's telecom industry. It has also revised some of its postpaid plans to add multifold data profit as aggressive pricing by Reliance Jio has boost struggle in the sector.

Movie Reviews Toilet Ek Prem Katha Wiki Now

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar, Anupam Kher
Director: Shree Narayan Singh

Rating: (3/5)

From Salman Khan to Priyanka Chopra, several Bollywood bigwigs selected up a broom to extend their support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Akshay Kumar took it to the next level and strong-willed to be the mission's official cheerleader and feature in a full-length film revolving around it.

It is no surprise, then, that some of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha's dialogues sound like something straight out of a public service message - "Biwi paas chahiye, toh ghar mein sandaas chahiye," "problem shauch ki nahi, soch ki hai."

The story is this. Keshav (Akshay) is a 36-year-old manglik who has been not capable to find a bride. Enter Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar). After some initial stalking turned into love, the two get married. But all hell breaks loose when Jaya is wake up at 4am by the ladies of the village to join their "lota party".

Turns out, present is not a single toilet in the village, and the women go into the fields while it is still dark to relieve themselves. Jaya refuses to respond nature's call in the open, and walks out of her marital home until Keshav builds a toilet for her.

difficulty is, the village elders will not budge - "Jis aangan mein tulsi lagate hai, wahaan shauch karna shuru kar de?" Under these circumstances, will Keshav and Jaya ever be reunited?

Since Baby (2015), Akshay Kumar has not let the loyalist in him take a backseat. In Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, too, he launches into lofty monologues about the menace of open defecation, especially its impact on women. He singlehandedly fights against the "sabhyata" and "sanskriti" squad and vows to get a toilet installed in the village. The storytelling can get tawdry at times, but Akshay manage to bring earnestness into his character.

Bhumi Pednekar makes Jaya individual; at no point does the audience feel like it is an actor essaying the part on screen. She is remarkable as the school topper who stands up for her right.

Some parts of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha could very well be an election campaign for the ruling party. Sample this: Who is responsible for the toilet scams worth thousands of crores? The people, of course! The film tells us that the government is doing its best to install toilets, but the people just won't change their mindset and let that happen. There is also a dialogue along the lines of, "Jab humare pradhan mantri desh ke bhalayi ke liye notebandi karwa sake hai, toh hum itna sa nahi kar sakte?"

What workings for the film is the hinterland humour. In an elaborate sequence, Akshay Kumar's character gets married to a buffalo to get rid of his "manglik dosh". It is the laughs which take absent your unease about the extent of the two-and-a-half-hour-long film.

If you can manage to ignore its preachiness at times, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is worth the price of your ticket, GST included.
