Newton movie reviews wiki

When Nutan Kumar, son of a middle class family in Chattisgarh, decides to change his name to Newton to avoid getting laugh at, he doesn’t know anywhere it will lead him. After a few years, at what time he is a government clerk and is sent to conduct a free and fair election in the Maoist-hit Dandakaranya region, he realises the significance of Newton’s discovery of the gravitational force. It’s just that, in real life, not everybody has a similar free fall the way Newton predicted.

Actually, this is a chat between Newton Kumar (Rajkummar Rao), a first time presiding officer bubbling with enthusiasm and nearly cynical honesty, and his commanding officer played by Sanjai Mishra.

During a casual conversation, an old and wise Mishra statistics out how Newton wears his integrity as the badge of honour and is ready to fight till the end to protect it. He advises Newton to do his duty without thinking that he is doing any favour to his fellow beings as this is what he is supposed to do. Later, in the interiors of the jungles in Bastar, Newton seems resolute to treat everyone equal in front of the electronic voting machine.

Though Newton is conscious of the high disappointment and illiteracy rate among the locals yet he is hopeful about the role of a fair election and how it can bring a potential change in their lives. He appears like a nice guy whose apolitical views are more following than most of us. He won’t take names of the politicians or the parties, but wants the adivasis to cast their votes at any cost. He wants the voters to make an informed decision, but won’t pressurise them. His confidence in the proper functioning of the system is unshakeable.

Unfortunately, his booth that has only 76 register voters comes under the jurisdiction of Aatma Singh (Pankaj Tripathi), an egoistic and scheming para-military commander.

During polling, a preside officer becomes the commanding officer of his booth by designation and that starts a tussle between Newton and Singh. None of them seems to back down and it appears they both are waiting for a trigger point. Of course, the rules will be followed, even in hostility. After all, they both are serving the same government.

From refusing to marry a minor for Rs 10 lakh cash and a motorcycle to standing up for the common people’s rights, Newton is when common as any of us. He can easily be beaten up, but we all know he will rise, again and again. He follows the rules and will formulate you do the same. His spine is not bent yet.

The contrast come in the form of his staff during the polls. Loknath (Raghuvir Yadav), an government servant on the brink of retirement, and Malko Netam (Anjali Patil), a local teacher, are there to help him, save for they don’t share the same sentiments.
While Loknath, who keeps thinking farcical zombie stories, takes polling as just another day in his life, Malko initially seems hopeful but slowly starts to give up against a mighty and corrupt system. There is another team affiliate who mostly sleep or does whatever he is asked to.

This team, except Malko, didn’t expect how bad could be the ground reality. Nobody understands proper Hindi or has inclination to get into the depths of the system. They’re simply living amid poverty, corruption and an unjust administration.

The vividness of the director Amit Masurkar, who earlier made a very talkative Sulemaani Keeda, is visible here. Not much action is shown and yet we know the scale of violence that is rampant in the area. He suggests more than an ideological war that both parties, the Maoist and the state, would like us to believe they are raging. In fact, it’s a battle to retain physical control in excess of the region. In the film, a character candidly says, “We want to break free from both the government forces and the Maoists.”

We travel inside the striking jungles that witness hundreds of murders and encounters every year. It’s a place for five-yearly visit for the national and international media. They come here armed with their microphones and high-end cameras to cover the insane dance of democracy, only to be fooled by the local officers. They see and capture only what they are shown, because not many care to investigate once the elections are over. smooth if they do the administration wouldn’t let them.

Masurkar shows us the whole thing from a neutral perspective. There are biases and there are parties. If Newton is taking forward the government’s agenda, Aatma Singh is also doing the same. Loknath’s aloofness and Malko’s noticeable concerns resonate within us. It’s a lay of terrible paradoxes and miscalculated sentiment.

Former Maoists have connected the government to fight against their ex-colleagues. The locals struggle hard against fate and lack of resources, and don’t want much outside interference in their day-to-day life. And the urban intelligentsia believe it’s their duty to lay out rules for the uneducated, rural junta. It’s all messed up. on or after the outset, it doesn’t look anything more than a routine exercise to maintain the one-upmanship sandwiched between the state and the violent guerillas.

Newton is sad to see the existing state of affairs. Loknath doesn’t care. Malko thinks nothing will change. The other person keeps sleeping. Aatma Singh is also human who has a family to take care of and is worried about the safety of his people. The the media are confused, mostly clueless. Top officers want a media face-lift and the locals go about their usual businesses like basic farming and ‘hadiya’ (a kind of alcoholic beverage). Zero disarticulation.

Newton is one of the finest supporting satires we have seen in the last couple of years. It refrains from taking sides and offers a humorous take on state against the Maoists bloody battle. It raises important questions on the importance of the electoral system we are so proud of. It takes us much beyond what we see. The team of Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Raghuvir Yadav and Anjali Patil has come up with a top-notch performance. It’s a world coming up to be explored, so better do it now.

Simran Review: Kangana Ranaut

Director: Hansal Mehta
Cast: Kangana Ranaut, Hiten Kumar, Kishore Shahane, Sohum Shah

Rating: (2/5)

There is something about Praful that makes her stand apart from the plethora of heroines seen on screen this year. She is overtly confident in her abilities, damaged and not easy to root for. She makes ample mistakes which add to her troubles and her honesty jeopardises her relationships both personal and skilled. She is the master and commander of her fraught destiny. Having Kangana Ranaut play Praful is a masterstroke and the actress doesn't let go off the opening to demonstrate her thespian talent. Alas it is wasted on an uneven film which struggles to navigate the different genres of offbeat comedy, family drama and a half-baked romance.

Praful is a 30-year-old housekeeper at a hotel and divorcee living with her parents in Atlanta. Her meticulous father thinks she is useless, and her mother while sympathetic towards her thinks it is best that her daughter get married again. But Praful has another plan which is to escape them by getting her own apartment. That daydream is busted when she heads to Las Vegas for a bachelorette with a cousin. There Praful loses all her savings and subsequently borrows thousands of dollars from two dangerous loan sharks. In debt, penniless, her advance rejected and her life under threat, Praful is driven to rob from banks. So begin the journey of the lipstick bandit whose wrong misdemeanours gradually end up wreaking havoc.

of course Ranaut is the centrepiece present in every frame to demonstrate Praful's many frailties and charms. Her Gujarati accent is far more credible than the one heard from an actress in a Europe-set romance. Ranaut is entirely invested in the character, often at the cost of laughing loudly and alone at some poorly constructed jokes. Ranaut brings flippancy to the temperament that often feels misplaced given Praful's circumstances. The remains of Queen's Rani are evident throughout, be it in the breakdown that Praful has in a free space (casino), dancing like nobody's watching at a wedding or her willingness to make a fool of herself, but the result is not as engaging or charming.

A chunk of the problem can be traced to the disagreement over writing credits that first brought Simran into headlines earlier this year. Written by Apurva Asrani with Ranaut getting additional story and dialogues credit, the film struggles with the continuity of a mood or tone. The comedy approach here doesn't pay dividend, with many of the punchlines missing the mark and most having been exhausted in the trailer itself. The performance comes from the conflict between Praful and her raging father (Hiten Kumar) who constantly demeans her and from whom she has inherited her own volatile temper. But these living room showdowns feel laboured with Praful's criminal ways, selfishness and skewed moral compass not winning her any compassion points.  When Praful's downward spiral begins, audiences know that she has dug up a hole too deep. Action isn't Hansal Mehta's specialty with the bank robberies feeling all too easy and accidentally hilarious and the climax lacking thrill. The two loan sharks are brought in sporadically to bring a sense of dread but it's a device that never works.  Oddly placed songs further hurt the pace and logic of the film. Mehta, Asrani and Ranaut start off in trying to imprison the hard immigrant experience in America but it is forgotten as Praful becomes Simran, a moniker she adopts as a bank chor.

Simran surrenders itself to the all-encompassing star power of Ranaut who is at peak when handling moments of silence and isolation. Whether it is breaking down in the car after her first robbery or just raising a toast to the world on a rooftop, she beautifully shows that Praful is an enigma, a young woman who thinks from her heart than her head. She is convinced she deserve better. After all the hoopla the audiences deserve a better movie too.

Apple iPhone 8 launch on September 12

Apple's iPhone 8 is coming and this time it will be special. Every year, tons of mock ups surface and claim to look like the final version but Apple surprise us with their ultimate reveal. Similarly, this year's iPhone has been leaked frequent times.

However, all these laugh at ups will go to rest in a few days from now. Apple will be conducting the launch event of the next generation iPhone on September 12. The occasion will be held at the newly build Steve Jobs theatre in Apple's new Apple Park which is also in its final stage of completion.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10am on September 12 in Cupertino, California which translate to 10:30pm for the Indian listeners. The iPhone 8 is also expected to be accompanied by a new version of Apple Watch during the event.

What can be expected of the event?

The biggest and almost certain publication will be that of a new Apple iPhone 8. Apple updates since iPhone 6 have been more evolutionary than ground-breaking and this year all eyes will be on Tim Cook to exhibit something radical.

Other than the iPhone 8, Apple is expected to launch two milder updates for this years' iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7. The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will give Apple enough padding for the risks it will take with the iPhone 8. If the rumours about iPhone 8's exorbitant prices are to be believed, many Apple fans might not end up buying these devices. These plans will feature LCD display panels, unlike the OLED panels in iPhone 8.

Apple will also be introduction an Apple Watch during the event. The update to Apple Watch has been long overdue since last years' Watch saw more of an incremental update to the first gen device. The new edition Apple Watch is expected to occupation independently as it will be capable of carrying a SIM card. This standalone product can give Apple an edge in the wearable segment.

What can we expect from iPhone 8?

The bigger change will be in the form of display on the iPhone 8. The display is predictable to be bezel-less with the maximum screen to body ratio ever to be found on a smartphone. The device will feature OLED displays which are being manufactured by Samsung. These OLED displays will cost Apple double the price for what they used in iPhone 7 Plus LCD panel.

Apple iPhone 8 launch on September 12: What does Tim Cook have up his sleeve?
Apple might place the fingerprint sensor under the screen or in the rear panel. There have been a few reports that also suggest that Apple might ditch the fingerprint sensor for an alternative like face-recognition. Analysts suggest that Apple might go for a 3D facial admiration system instead.

The camera will use dual lenses and  is expected to house larger sensors. This will help iPhone compete against the current flagships in the low-light segment. The front facing snapper might be placed in the small serration on the top of the OLED display.

The iPhone 8 is expected to feature a bigger 5.8 inch display. However, the device's overall foot-print should reduce considering the bezel-less display.

When will the device go on sale?

The new iPhones will be available for pre-booking by September 15 and will start delivery by September 22. According to a report by TechCrunch, Apple will begin pre-bookings for iPhone 8 but will only be available later in the year whereas, the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will be available few days after the administrator launch.

Social Media Marketing Trends That Could Make or Break Your Business

That’s the question I was asked in an meeting recently. This kind of question can be really easy since there are so many easy candidates –IoT, VR, and just about anything to do with Facebook.

But if you don’t fancy to rely on the cliches of future social technology, it can be a challenge to pick out what will matter and why. I suppose this post is somewhere in the middle and I hope it helps you think about where the substance break away from the shiny social media objects.

The most important thing about social medium marketing isn’t always the tech. It’s the people.10
A lot of what draws marketers’ attention to social media is technology: new apps, networks and the latest features on major platform. But the most important thing about social media marketing isn’t always the technology. It’s the people and how they use that technology to make, publish, share, interact and transact.2

Social media is a self-motivated of consumer behaviors driving new social technology development while at the same time, new technologies that affect consumer behaviors. It’s significant for brands looking at what’s next in social media to know this dynamic amongst their own customers and broader community.

With that dynamic cycle of citizens and technology in mind, here are a few directions for social media evolution I think are worth paying attention to:

Facebook Internet
1. The Facebook Internet
Facebook is dominating social medium usage, video and advertising and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Along with WhatsApp messaging and predictions that Instagram will soon become the second biggest social network, many Facebook users don’t really necessitate to leave, do they? Think about that customer expectation when developing your Facebook marketing strategy and how much you can bring about with customer engagement before they ever even think of visiting your boring corporate website.

Converged Social Media
2. Converged Social
The combination of Microsoft and LinkedIn will create innovations that will benefit marketers in some interesting ways, especially if trained social profiles become accessible and integrated within Microsoft 365 apps. There’s more convergence to come and guess are hot as to whether Facebook, Google or Apple will buy Twitter or if Twitter will go the way of Friendster and MySpace.

Imagine come again? it could mean to your content co-creation and influencer marketing efforts with the integration of the LinkedIn network to Office 365. Need an expert quote for a blog post, ebook or article? Right click.

Social Video
3. Hot Video
Real-time video is the blistering shot on the block right now with Snapchat, Facebook Live and Periscope leading the way towards social engagement with customers in ways many brands haven’t explored before. Facebook’s own Nicola Mendelsohn says in five years, Facebook will “probably” be “all video”.

Like live TV, live video presents brand some opportunities for things to go differently than planned1, like Mark Zuckerberg’s inevitably comedic Q/A with Jerry Seinfeld on Facebook live that has reached over 9 million views. On the other hand, who wouldn’t trade some uncomfortable for the reach and exposure (159m views) of a Chewbacca Mom event?

If real-time video isn’t in your comfort zone, find someone who is contented with that kind of exposure plus media creation. Then train them to be your social champion.

Pay to Play Social Media
4. Paying to Play Social
Social Advertising will carry on to rise with even more options for advertisers. Social media advertising is projected to generate $11 billion in revenue by 2017, up from just $6.1 billion in 2013. More social networks and apps will expand their advertising offerings, just look at Snapchat now inserting ads in between users’ “Stories” and Snapchat Partners, API right of entry that will provide access to creating custom buying and management tools.

There’s no getting around the prerequisite for paid amplification with content on social networks. More importantly, with Facebook’s continued efforts at putting the focus on individuals over brands, companies need to think about the collective social wisdom of their people and group of people for distribution vs. simply publish on the brand social home base.

Dark social
5. Dark Social
With 84% of global social shares dark to social media analytics, there’s a growing importance, but brands are challenged to gauge its effectiveness in ways that synch with other social media measurement. There’s no shortage of recommendations on how to  measure dark social, but we all need more concrete direction on this and collaboration between apps, network and platforms to make it meaningful.

Social Chat Bots

6. Social Chat Bots
Again, Facebook has open doors for a new kind of engagement and with customers’ expectation of real-time engagement, bots may be able to satisfy basic customer service and in order needs for brands. Will bots be a service or communications solution for your brand? Maybe.

At a minimum, brands will need to invest in more interactive social experiences for their community and what better what to that than an neural network and some AI?

Mobile Social Media
7. Mobile First
Mobile traffic now exceed desktop traffic and 2 billion consumers worldwide are expected to own a smartphone in 2016. There’s nothing new about the importance of mobile friendliness or having apps, but the cost of ignoring mobile social media experiences for brand dragging their feet will rise dramatically. At a minimum, make sure Google thinks your site is mobile friendly and perhaps, most of your customers will too.

Social Media Automation
8. Social Media Automation
“Martech Shock” extends to social media as brands look to automate and scale. The use of social media automation tools and platform features will grow to help brands with prospecting, delivering content to the right customers at the right time and meeting – all integrated with a marketing dashboard for end to end reporting of the impact social media has across the customer journey. Just don’t think this kind of solution is “plug and play”. As with CRM, analytics and marketing mechanization, you will need human expertise and a strategy to make the most out of your automation software investment.

Social Media Participation
9. Social Content Participation
People are empowered and provoked more than ever to co-create social content with brands. If a brand makes that possible, I think consumers wi1ll be incredibly attracted in partnering with companies in ways that serve communal interests.

In a way, this kind of customer and brand collaboration is tapping into the whole user-generated content phenomenon. There are so many ways to do it, especially because of mobile devices allowing people to participate at all times with brands on topics they’re avid about. Content can easily become an outcome of this type of participation, whether it’s a video, image or even text.

Activating passionate people within a social network environment where they can co-create and participate is an exciting occasion to scale reach, content quantity and connect with social influencers.

Here’s the thing: Sometimes social media marketing often seems doomed to become nothing more than another advertising channel, with reproduction automation schemes for brands to scale the illusion of customer engagement.

While that seems a bit cynical, I also think the communal power of individuals on social networks has never been greater – for content, engagement and influence. When brands and marketers can marry the understanding and action of the crowd with technology that actually solves a real problem, I think the future of social media is brighter than ever.

Movie reviews-Shubh Mangal Saavdhan 2017

Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar, Brijendra Kala, Shubhankar Tripathi

Director: R S Prasanna

Rating: 3 Stars (Out of 5)

Nobody so much as utters 'erectile dysfunction', or 'impotence', in Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan, a cockeyed take on a predicament that is no smiling matter. The film's male protagonist isn't up to the challenge of going the whole hog in bed. His battle with his dodgy libido is euphemistically referred to as "gent's problem": very much in trust with the Delhi NCR middle-class socio-cultural surroundings of the story.

Pidgin English holds sway here. This is the Hindi heartland: the hero swears 'loyaltiness' to his would-be bride and marriage is planned in clumsy but innocuous ways. Trouble erupts when the hero's attempts at expressing youthful sexual desire fail to deliver the desired results and two cantankerous families get sucked into a series of slugfests as the youthful couple look for ways around their predicament.

This is highly tricky terrain but director R S Prasanna skirts around the potential pitfalls with the help of loads of maturity and a time and again light touch. The result: this comedic tale on love and lust caught in a zone of grave uncertainty never flirts with prurience.

Prasanna is aided by the lead pair - Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar, both bright and boundlessly energetic - as well as a wonderful supporting cast (Seema Pahwa, Brijendra Kala Chitranjan Tripathy, Neeraj Sood). jointly they ensure that the dual glue of plain humour and believable situations prevents the ticklish central concept from falling apart.

But hang on, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan isn't flawless. Especially off-key is the overdramatic climax (in which an act of foolhardiness by the hero seems wholly at odds with the otherwise realistic tenor of the tale). One or two other passages in the lead-up to the convenient conclusion to the newly married couple's dilemma might also have done with some pruning and layering.

Be that as it may, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, a remake of the director's own 2013 Tamil sleeper hit Kalyana Samayal Saadham, is worthy of round of applause for the way it breaks the patriarchal notions of masculinity that have been perpetuated ad infinitum by the popular strain of Indian cinema that has been built around a mard who feels no dard. Here the hero's torture and bewilderment are real and his frailties, physical and emotional, aren't blamed in the lead anybody else but himself. It is he who's got to sort it out in the mind and the stiff, with, of course, a great deal of help from the woman in his life.

The drama is predicated on his indecisive relationship with the heroine, a girl with a mind of her own, as well as on his run-ins with his own parents and with the girl's baffled and exasperated father and mother. Parts of the latter portions strain credibility a bit since a delicate personal problem going as communal as it does is a touch difficult to digest.
Such irritants are minor and the spirit of the film is generally pleasant and innocuous even when it directs sharp barbs at the communal order that imposes its standard idea of mardangi on all men, without allowing space for the possibility of behavioural variations.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, the story of Gurgaon boy Mudit Sharma (Ayushmann Khurrana) and a Moti Bagh girl Sugandha Joshi (Bhumi Pednekar) whose paths cross in Nehru Place, plunges into the heart of the matter without much foreplay. The guy is shy and the girl has had an overly protected upbringing that prevented free mixing with member of the opposite sex. It takes them a while and many a slip (including the hug of a bear, literally) to find ordinary ground and get their parents' acquiescence. And then the twosome hits a wall.

Mudit decides to give pre-marital s*x a shot because he doesn't want to waste any time getting to know Sugandha after marriage. Their clumsy attempt stops at inelegant snuggling. Mudit discovers that he cannot consummate his passion. The director is at his best in these difficult moments of the script. He keeps it tight and direct and looks the difficulty in the eye without slipping into any trace of vulgarity.
As the lovers kiss gawkily and attempt a quickie in a room in the girl's DDA apartment, the director takes recourse to the voice of radio raconteur Neelesh Misra to narrate a tangential story of a boy who devoured bottles of Banta soda waiting interminably to muster the courage to profess his love for a girl who catches his fancy. This sets the tone for the rest of the film, apart from for the rather dangly conclusion.

Mudit sinks into deep despair when he experiences first-hand the consequences of his performance anxiety that he suggests they call off the marriage. Sugandha puts her foot down and leaves for Haridwar, the venue of the wedding. Mudit drags himself there with such an air of despondency that Sugandha is compelled to give him a piece of her mind. "Muskurao hamari shaadi ho rahi hai (Smile, we are getting married), she exhorts him only to elicit a limp response.

In one first half prospect, Sugandha's mother, played superbly by Seema Pahwa, recites to her daughter a poem that she penned 30 years ago after her honeymoon and then likens the s**ual politics of marriage to Alibaba of the Arabian Nights tale trying to open the door to the treasure hidden in the thieves' cave. This sequence follows a shot of a soggy biscuit dropping into a cup of tea by way of an analogy for Mudit's state. That is the farthest this film is willing to go bring home the nature of the hero's infirmity.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan stays strictly within the limits of suitability in dealing with a thorny theme that could easily have plunged into overt ineptness. Lightheartedness is the cloak it wears to conceal its uneasy patches. That it succeeds in that endeavour more often than not is a measure of the director's ability.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, breezy sufficient at its core not to be bogged down by the weight of its daring and untested essential plot point, is never less than amusing.
